Data Cabling Perth: Structured, Network and Fibre Installations
Data and Network Cabling for Perth and WA
Rest-A-Sured Security installs data cabling in Perth and across regional Western Australia, from a few extra network points in an office to structured cabling and fibre optic links through a warehouse, a strata building or a site with several buildings on it. We design and install copper and fibre networks for residential, commercial and industrial clients. We are WA owned and operated, established in 1998, and cable has been part of every system we have installed since.
Most people only think about network cabling when it lets them down: the video call that drops, the camera that goes offline every afternoon, the back office that has never had a connection worth using. Nearly all of it traces back to what is in the walls and the ceiling. Good data cabling is the part of a network you pay for once and then stop thinking about.
This page covers what our data cabling installation service includes, how copper and fibre compare, how a job runs from the first site visit to handover, and what moves the price.
What Our Data Cabling Installation Includes
Every data cabling installation is scoped to the building, not sold as a per-point package off a price list. Depending on the site, the work can include:
Network Cabling & Data Points
New network points for desks, printers, wireless access points, cameras and door controllers, each cabled back to a central cabinet.
Structured Cabling
A planned and labelled cabling system, so points can be added, moved and traced later without guesswork.
Fibre Optic Cabling
Fibre links between floors, comms rooms and buildings, where the distance or the data load is more than copper can carry.
Because the same team installs CCTV, access control, intercom systems and alarms, the network cabling and the security cabling can be planned and pulled as one job. That means one crew in the ceiling once, rather than two trades working around each other and two sets of cable sharing the same tray with nobody responsible for both.
Structured Cabling for Perth Businesses
Structured cabling sounds more complicated than it is. It means cabling installed to a plan: every point runs back to a known location, every cable is labelled at both ends, and there is spare capacity for the things you have not bought yet. The alternative is what most buildings end up with after ten years of one-off additions, where nobody can say which cable feeds which desk and every change starts with an hour of tracing.
New fit-outs and office moves. The cheapest time to cable a tenancy is before the ceiling is closed and the desks arrive. If you are taking on a new space, bring the cabling into the fit-out conversation early. Deciding where the points go after the furniture is in always costs more.
Adding to what is already there. Extra points for new desks, a relocated printer, better wireless coverage or another camera position. We look at what exists first, so new work matches it rather than becoming a second system laid over the first.
Warehouses, workshops and yards. Industrial sites mean longer runs, higher ceilings, heat, dust and forklifts. A copper network run tops out at around 100 metres, which a large shed or a yard can use up quickly. That is usually where a fibre link earns its place, carrying the network out to a far office, a gatehouse or a camera pole.
Strata and multi-tenant buildings. Risers, comms rooms and shared pathways carry the cabling for the lobby intercom, the car park cameras and the door controllers on common property. In a strata security system, the cabling is the part every other system depends on and the part that is hardest to revisit later.
Data Cabling Installation: How It Works
1. Site Assessment
We walk the building, count the points you need, check ceiling and wall access and look at the cabling and cabinet space already there.
2. Written Quote
A written quote scoped to your site, covering cable, points, cabinet work and labour in one price.
3. Installation
Cable is run, terminated and labelled. On a working site we stage it around your trading hours.
4. Testing & Handover
Each point is checked before we leave site.
5. Ongoing Support
The same local team comes back for extra points, moves and faults, the way we have supported security systems across WA for more than 28 years.
Who Our Data Cabling Services Suit
Offices & Commercial Tenancies
New fit-outs, office moves and extra network points for businesses that have outgrown what the last tenant left behind. Our commercial security systems run over the same cabling.
Warehouses & Industrial Sites
Long runs, separate buildings and outdoor equipment, where the choice between copper and fibre decides whether the far end of the site has a network that works.
Strata & Multi-Tenant Buildings
Backbone cabling through risers and common property for intercoms, cameras and access control, installed so the next upgrade does not mean starting again.
Homes & Regional WA Properties
Network points for home offices, cameras and intercoms, and cabling for rural and regional properties through our regional installations team, where many installers will not travel.
Copper or Fibre: Network Cabling Options
Most network cabling in Perth buildings is a mix of two things, and each has a job it is better at.
Copper network cabling. Twisted-pair copper is what sits behind almost every wall outlet. It carries data and, with Power over Ethernet, it carries power as well, which is how a camera, a wireless access point or an intercom panel runs off a single cable with no power point beside it. Its limits are distance, at roughly 100 metres a run, and electrical interference from heavy plant and power cabling nearby.
Fibre optic cabling. Fibre sends data as pulses of light through glass rather than as an electrical signal through copper. It supports far higher data rates, it loses much less signal over distance, and it is immune to electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference, which matters in buildings with a lot of electrical activity. It is also difficult to tap without detection. There is more detail in our article on fibre optic cabling as the backbone of high-speed networks.
Where each belongs. Copper to the desk and the device. Fibre for the backbone: between comms rooms, between floors, between buildings on the same site, and out to the far gate where a camera or an intercom has to live. A sound design uses both and puts the money where the distance and the data are.
Fibre optic cabling in Perth, from one link to a full backbone. We design and install fibre optic networks for residential, commercial and industrial clients across Western Australia.
Cabling for CCTV, Access Control and Intercoms
This is where a security installer comes at data cabling differently from a general cabler. Every modern camera, door controller and intercom panel is a network device. It needs a cable that carries data and power reliably, over the full length of the run, in whatever conditions that run passes through.
A camera that drops out every afternoon, or an intercom that works some days and not others, is very often a cable problem and not an equipment problem: a run that is too long, a joint in a roof space, an outdoor cable that was never rated for the sun. Cable type and run length decide whether a system is reliable or intermittent.
If you are cabling a building that will also need CCTV installation, access control or intercom systems, it is worth having both designed together. The camera positions set where the network points go, the door hardware sets where the controllers sit, and the recorder and the cabinet need a home with power and ventilation. Getting that right on paper costs far less than fixing it after the ceiling is closed.
What Affects the Cost of Data Cabling in Perth
No two buildings are built or cabled the same way, so we quote data cabling from the site itself rather than a per-point price list. These are the things that move the price most.
Number of points. The count comes from what needs a connection: desks, printers, wireless access points, cameras, door controllers and anything you expect to add.
The building. A single-storey office with an open ceiling space is quick. Double brick walls, concrete slabs, multi-storey buildings and finished ceilings with no access take longer.
Run lengths, and copper or fibre. Long runs across a warehouse or between buildings use more cable and labour, and past a certain distance they need fibre and the equipment at each end to match.
The cabinet and hardware. A new comms cabinet, extra patch capacity or relocating existing equipment adds to the job. Reusing a cabinet with room in it lowers it.
When the work can happen. A site that is still trading often has to be cabled in stages or outside opening hours.
What is already there. Sound existing cabling and pathways can often be reused, which brings the cost of an upgrade down.
We quote in writing after a site visit, so you know the full data cabling installation cost before any work starts.

Choosing a Data Cabling Company in Perth
Rest-A-Sured Security is WA owned and operated and has been installing, upgrading and maintaining systems across Perth and regional WA for more than 28 years. We work from Wangara and we do our own installs.
If you are comparing data cabling companies in Perth, these are the things worth asking. Who actually does the install? Is every cable labelled and documented at handover? Will they come back for three extra points next year, or only for the big job? And does the person cabling your network understand the equipment that will hang off it?
That last question is where we are different from a general cabler. The cabling we install usually ends up carrying cameras, door controllers and intercoms, and we install and maintain those as well, along with 24/7 security monitoring. One company is responsible for the cable and for what is plugged into it.

Data Cabling Perth FAQs
What is the difference between data cabling, network cabling and structured cabling?
Data cabling and network cabling mean the same thing: the cable that connects computers, phones, cameras and other devices to your network. Structured cabling is the planned version of it, where every point runs back to a central cabinet, every cable is labelled and there is spare capacity for growth.
Do I need fibre optic cabling or is copper enough?
For most desks and devices, copper is enough. Fibre is the better choice for the backbone of a network: links between floors, comms rooms or buildings, runs longer than about 100 metres, and areas with heavy electrical interference. Many sites use both.
Can you add data points to an existing office?
Yes. We check the cabling and cabinet space already in place, then add new points to match it, so you are not left with two separate systems.
Can data cabling be installed while the business is trading?
Yes. On a working site we stage the installation around your trading hours and do the disruptive parts when the building is quiet.
Do you install the cabling for CCTV, access control and intercoms as well?
Yes. We install CCTV, access control and intercom systems as well as the cabling they run on, so the network and the security system can be designed and installed as one job.
Do you install data cabling in homes?
Yes. We install copper and fibre cabling for residential clients as well as commercial and industrial sites, including network points for home offices, cameras and intercoms.
Do you install data cabling outside the Perth metro area?
Yes. Alongside Perth metro, our regional installations service covers rural and regional Western Australia.
How long does a data cabling installation take?
It depends on the number of points, the length of the runs and how easy the building is to get cable through. A few extra points in an office with good ceiling access is a much shorter job than cabling a warehouse or a multi-storey building. We confirm the expected time on site in your quote, before any work is booked.
How much does data cabling cost in Perth?
The cost comes down to the number of points, the building, the length of the runs, whether fibre is needed and whether the work has to be staged around trading hours. We quote in writing after a site visit, covering cable, points, cabinet work and labour, so you know the full cost before any work starts.
