Commercial CCTV for Perth Business Premises
Rest-A-Sured Security designs, installs and maintains commercial CCTV in Perth and regional Western Australia for warehouses and industrial yards, retail, offices, strata common areas, construction sites and petrol station forecourts. We are WA owned and operated, established in 1998, and we hold security licence 09458.
This page is about business security cameras only. If you want cameras at home, start with our CCTV installation Perth page. If you need alarms, access control and monitoring across a whole site, see commercial security systems.
A commercial CCTV installation is judged on one thing: on the day something happens, does the footage show what happened clearly enough to act on? That is decided long before the first camera goes up, by where the cameras point, what they are expected to prove and how long the recording is kept. Camera count comes after all of that.
What a Commercial CCTV Installation Includes
Every commercial CCTV installation Perth businesses get from us is supply and installation together, so the cameras, recorder, cabling and labour are in one price rather than split across suppliers. A typical job includes:
Site Survey & Camera Plan
We walk the premises with you and plan each camera position around what it has to show: an entry, a dock, a till, a yard or a number plate.
Cameras, Recording & Cabling
Cameras rated for the light and weather at each position, a recorder sized to the camera count and the footage you need to keep, and the cabling between them.
Remote Viewing & Handover
Viewing from your phone or office, and a handover that covers playback and exporting a clip for the police or an insurer.
Many business CCTV installation jobs are on sites where cameras already exist and have stopped matching what the business has grown into. Where the existing cabling or recorder is sound we will say so, and quote an upgrade to the existing camera system rather than a full replacement.
Business CCTV System Design for Larger Sites
On a house, camera placement is mostly common sense. On a commercial site it is a design job, because the site is bigger, more people need something different from the footage, and a blind spot tends to be found by the person looking for one.
Start with the questions, not the camera count
Who came through that door, what left on that pallet, which vehicle was in the yard at 2am. Each question needs a camera placed and specified to answer it. Counting cameras first usually buys a lot of wide views that show movement and identify nobody.
Docks, roller doors and yards
These are where stock changes hands and where a site is most exposed after hours. Cameras here have to deal with a dark interior against a bright doorway, with headlights and with distance, and they are the positions most often knocked out of line by a delivery.
Tills, counters and stock areas
Coverage over a point of sale has to show the transaction, not the top of somebody's head. Stockrooms and back-of-house areas need a view of the door and of the shelving that matters.
Car parks and vehicle entries
A general view of a car park records that a vehicle was there. Reading a plate takes a camera set up for that job at the entry or exit, which is covered further down this page. For whole car parks, see car park CCTV.
Recording, retention and the network
More cameras at higher resolution over more days means more storage, and on a large site the cameras need a network that can carry them. Retention is sized to how long it would take you to find out something had happened. There is no standard figure: it depends on how many cameras there are, their resolution and frame rate, and whether they record continuously or only on motion.
More than one premises
Where a business runs several sites, they can be built to one standard and viewed together, so a manager is not learning a different system at each location.

Business Security Cameras by Site Type
Warehouses & Industrial Yards
CCTV for warehouses is about docks, roller doors, racking aisles and the yard. Stock and plant are usually the exposure, and they sit furthest from the street.
Retail
Coverage over entries, tills, the shop floor and the stockroom for theft and loss prevention, with people counting and heat mapping available where a store wants to understand how customers use the space.
Offices
Reception, entries, lift lobbies, comms rooms and car parks, usually tied to access control so a door event has vision attached to it.
Strata Common Areas
Shared entries, car parks, bin stores and lobbies, with footage that a strata manager or committee can retrieve when they need it. See our strata security systems.
Construction Sites
Camera coverage for building sites, where plant, copper and materials are the target and the site changes as the build progresses. See construction site security.
Petrol Stations & Forecourts
Forecourt cameras positioned to read number plates at the pumps, with coverage of the console and shop for the people working there late.
Number Plate Cameras for Commercial Sites
A standard security camera will rarely give you a readable plate. The vehicle is moving, the plate is reflective, and at night the headlights wash out the image. A number plate camera is a different camera set up for one job: fixed on a narrow point every vehicle has to pass through, at the right angle and height, with the exposure set for plates rather than for the scene.
On a commercial site that usually means the gate, the car park entry or the forecourt. Automatic number plate recognition goes a step further and turns each plate into a searchable record, so you can look up when a vehicle arrived instead of scrubbing through hours of footage. Paired with a boom gate or a sliding gate, approved vehicles can be let in without a pass.
If vehicles are the main thing you need to track, see our ANPR camera systems page.
Video Analytics for Business CCTV
Cameras record. Video analytics is the software that watches the recording for you and raises a flag when something specific happens. These are the five capabilities we set up for commercial sites.
People counting
A count of how many people enter and leave through a doorway, by hour and by day. Retailers use it to compare foot traffic with sales, and venues use it to keep track of how many people are inside.
Heat mapping for marketing
A map of where customers walk and where they stop, built up over days or weeks. It shows which displays and aisles draw people and which parts of a store are passed by, which is useful when deciding a layout or where a promotion should go.
PPE detection
The system checks whether hi-vis, hard hats and other required protective equipment are being worn in the areas where they are mandatory, and flags it when they are not.
Restricted area alerts
A line or zone is drawn on the camera view around a plant room, a chemical store, a roof access or a yard after hours, and an alert is raised when somebody crosses into it.
Fire detection using thermal cameras
Thermal cameras see heat rather than light, so they can pick up an abnormal temperature in stock, plant, waste or battery storage before there is smoke or flame to see.
Not every site needs analytics, and it works best when it is pointed at one or two specific problems. We will tell you where it would earn its keep on your site and where a well placed camera is enough.
Site Safety and PPE Compliance
On a commercial or industrial site, CCTV does a second job beside security: it helps keep the people on site safe.
Seeing an incident when it happens
Loading docks, workshops, plant rooms and cold stores are where people get hurt. Camera coverage of those areas means an incident can be seen and responded to at the time, rather than found afterwards.
Confirming PPE is worn where it is required
Cameras covering entry points to a workshop or a busy commercial yard can confirm that hi-vis, hard hats, safety glasses and hearing protection are being worn where the site rules call for them, either by review or automatically with PPE detection.
Lone workers and after-hours shifts
With cameras tied into the alarm and access control, somebody can check what is actually happening on site if a duress alarm is triggered or a door opens outside normal hours.
Incident review
When something does go wrong, footage gives you a clear record for the investigation and for safety or insurance reporting, instead of relying on what people remember.
Monitored Commercial CCTV
Recorded footage tells you what happened. Monitoring is about what happens next. Rest-A-Sured is affiliated with one of the largest independently owned grade-1 monitoring stations in Western Australia, operating 24/7, and a commercial CCTV system can be connected to it alongside your alarm.
For a business, the value is after hours, when nobody is on site.
See our 24/7 security monitoring page for how monitoring works and what happens when an alarm is received, and CCTV monitoring for how the control room checks your cameras when the alarm trips.
Integration with Access Control and Alarms
Business security cameras are most useful when they are not standing on their own. Linked to access control, every door event has footage attached to it: you see who used the card, not only that the card was used. Linked to the alarm, an activation or a duress button comes with vision of the area it came from.
Because we install and maintain all three, a combined job is quoted, cabled and commissioned by one crew, and the systems are set up to work with each other. For larger sites we set up video management software, and Milestone can be integrated with Integriti access control so cameras and doors are managed in one place.
Commercial CCTV Maintenance and Repairs
The usual way a business finds out its cameras have a problem is by going to look for footage that is not there. A drive failed months ago, a lens has filmed over with dust, or a camera was bumped and has been recording a wall. Perth heat and coastal salt wear outdoor cameras faster than most people expect.
A maintenance visit checks, cleans and re-aims each camera, confirms the recorder is keeping the footage you need, and brings firmware and passwords up to date. If your alarm is with us, it can be serviced on the same visit through our alarm service and maintenance rather than as a second call-out.
What Affects the Cost of Commercial CCTV
We quote every commercial CCTV installation from the site, not from a price list. These are the things that move the price most on business premises.
Size of the site and number of cameras
More entries, docks, aisles and yard to cover means more cameras, more cable and a larger recorder.
Camera type
Fixed cameras cost less than varifocal, PTZ, number plate or thermal cameras. The specialist cameras are worth paying for at the positions that need them, and not everywhere.
Cable runs and the building
High ceilings, long runs across a yard, tilt-panel walls and work at height add labour. On large sites the network between buildings can be a job of its own.
Recording and retention
More days of footage at higher resolution needs more storage.
Analytics, monitoring and integration
Video analytics, 24/7 monitoring and links to access control or an alarm all add to the price.
Working around trading hours
Staging the work so the business keeps running can mean after-hours or weekend labour.
What is already there
Sound existing cabling, cameras or a recorder can often be kept, which lowers the cost of an upgrade.

Choosing a Commercial CCTV Installer in Perth
Rest-A-Sured Security has installed, upgraded and maintained security systems across WA for more than 28 years. We are WA owned and operated, we work from Wangara, and we cover the Perth metro area and regional WA, including sites some competitors will not travel to.
If you are comparing commercial CCTV installers in Perth, the things worth asking are who actually does the install, whether they walk the site before quoting, whether they can stage the work around your trading hours, and whether they will still be servicing the system in five years.
We are a security licence holder (09458) doing our own installs and our own maintenance, and we offer a 2-year warranty on installations. Because we also install alarms and access control, and our alarm systems are monitored through a grade-1 station, a commercial CCTV system from us can be one part of a joined-up site rather than a separate box on the wall.

Commercial CCTV Perth FAQs
How is commercial CCTV different from a home camera system?
A commercial system usually has more cameras, longer cable runs and more people who need access to the footage. It is designed around specific risks such as docks, tills, yards and car parks, it is installed while the site is still trading, and it is more often linked to access control, an alarm and monitoring.
Can you install commercial CCTV while we are trading?
Yes. We stage cabling, mounting and commissioning around your trading hours and do the noisy or intrusive work when the site is quiet, so the business keeps running.
Can you upgrade or take over an existing camera system?
In most cases, yes. Much of our commercial work is on sites that already have cameras. Where the existing cabling or recorder is sound it can often be kept, and we quote an upgrade rather than a full replacement.
How many cameras does a business need?
It depends on what the footage has to show. We work from the entries, docks, tills, stock areas, yards and car parks that need covering and what each camera has to prove, then set the count from that. We confirm it in a written quote after walking the site.
Can commercial CCTV read number plates?
Yes, with a camera set up for it. A number plate camera is fixed on a point every vehicle passes, such as a gate or forecourt, and set for plates rather than the wider scene. See our ANPR camera systems page.
Can cameras check that PPE is being worn?
Yes. Cameras covering a workshop, a dock or a busy commercial yard can confirm that hi-vis, hard hats and other required protective equipment are being worn, either by reviewing footage or automatically using PPE detection.
Can our business CCTV be monitored 24/7?
Yes. We are affiliated with one of the largest independently owned grade-1 monitoring stations in WA, operating 24/7, and a commercial CCTV system can be connected to 24/7 security monitoring.
Do you install CCTV on construction sites and petrol stations?
Yes. We install CCTV for construction sites, and forecourt and shop coverage for petrol stations.
Do you install commercial CCTV outside the Perth metro area?
Yes. Alongside Perth metro, our regional installations service covers rural and regional Western Australia.
How long is commercial CCTV footage kept?
It depends on the storage in the recorder, the number of cameras and the resolution they record at. We size the storage to the retention period you need and confirm it in your quote.
How much does commercial CCTV installation cost in Perth?
The cost comes down to the size of the site, the number and type of cameras, the cable runs, how much footage you need to keep, and whether analytics, monitoring or access control integration are included. We quote in writing after a site assessment, with supply and installation in one price.
