Car Park CCTV Perth
Security cameras for shopping centre, commercial, strata and residential car parks across Perth and regional WA, with ANPR at the entry and exit lanes.

Car Park Security Cameras for Perth Sites
Rest-A-Sured Security designs, installs and maintains car park CCTV for shopping centres, commercial buildings, offices, strata complexes and industrial sites across Perth and regional WA. We are WA owned and operated, based in Wangara, in the security industry since 1998, and we hold security licence 09458.
In a car park, standard CCTV shows you what happened. ANPR tells you which vehicle was involved. Most car park systems we quote use both: ANPR on the entry and exit lanes, and security cameras covering the aisles, pay stations, stairwells and lifts. This page is about the cameras. For number plate recognition, boom gates and permit lists, see ANPR camera systems Perth.
Plates are read at the lanes, but incidents happen elsewhere: the far end of a level, poorly lit corners, stairwells and the walk back to the building. That is where car park CCTV earns its keep.
What a Car Park CCTV System Includes
Every car park is specified on its own layout, lighting and traffic. A typical system includes:
Coverage Where Incidents Happen
Cameras on the aisles, pay stations, stairwells, lifts and pedestrian exits, not just the entry.
Plates at the Lanes
Number plate cameras or ANPR fixed on the entry and exit lanes, where every vehicle has to pass.
Footage You Can Use
Faces and plates readable where it counts, and a handover that covers exporting a clip for WA Police or an insurer.
Already have cameras in the car park? Whether existing cameras and recorders can be kept depends on their make and age, and we check that at the site visit. If the car park sits within a larger site, see commercial CCTV installation.
Designing CCTV for a Car Park
A general view of a car park records that a vehicle was there. Reading a plate or a face takes a camera positioned for that job, at the right height and angle, at a point people and vehicles actually pass.
Lighting and glare
Car parks are dark in the corners and bright at the entries, and at night headlights wash out a standard camera. We look at the lighting at each position and specify cameras for it.
Levels and blind spots
Ramps, pillars and low ceilings break up the view. Coverage is planned level by level so the stairwells, lifts and far ends are not left as gaps.
Recording and retention
More cameras at higher resolution over more days means more storage, and on a large car park the cameras need a network that can carry them. Retention is sized to how long it would take you to find out something had happened.
Car Park CCTV Installation: How It Works
Site Assessment
We walk the car park with you and map the entries, exits, levels, lighting and any existing cameras or boom gates.
Written Quote
A written proposal covering cameras, recording, cabling and scope of works, so there are no surprises on install day.
Installation
Our technicians carry out the install, staged around trading hours where the car park has to stay open.
Handover
We walk your team through viewing, playback and exporting a clip, and test every camera before we leave site.
Ongoing Support
Service checks, repairs and additional cameras as the site changes, from the same team that installed it.
Car Park CCTV by Site Type
Shopping Centres
High traffic, long hours and a mix of shoppers, staff and deliveries. Plate reads at the entries give centre security a record to check against incidents. Our article on ANPR in Perth shopping centres covers how that works day to day.
Commercial Buildings & Offices
Tenant, visitor and after-hours parking, usually tied to access control so a vehicle or door event has vision attached to it.
Strata & Apartment Car Parks
Shared entries, car parks and bin stores, with footage a strata manager or committee can retrieve when a parking or damage dispute comes up. See strata security systems.
Industrial Yards & Depots
Trucks, contractor vehicles and staff parking, with cameras on the gates and the yard so a vehicle incident can be reviewed.
Petrol Stations & Forecourts
Long trading hours with cash and stock on site, and cameras over the forecourt as well as the shop.
ANPR and Car Park CCTV Together
ANPR does not replace car park CCTV, and car park CCTV does not replace ANPR. ANPR identifies vehicles by their plates at set points such as lanes and gates. Car park CCTV records what happens across the whole car park.
Together, a plate read at the entry can be matched to footage of what that vehicle did once it was inside, and the same plate list can flag a vehicle linked to an earlier incident the next time it enters.
For entry and exit systems, permits, overstays and plate lists, see ANPR camera systems Perth and our guide to ANPR car park management.
Monitored Car Park CCTV
Recorded footage tells you what happened. Monitoring is about what happens next. Where the car park has an alarm, the cameras can be tied to its zones, so when a zone trips after hours a 24/7 grade 1 control room checks the cameras before responding. See CCTV monitoring.
Strata complexes rely on monitoring to cover shared entries, car parks and common areas around the clock. ANPR alerts are different: they go to your own team rather than to the control room.
Boom Gates, Intercoms and Access Control
Most controlled car parks need a way to let the right vehicles in. That can be a card or fob reader at the boom gate, an intercom so visitors can call through, or ANPR so an approved plate lifts the boom. See access control systems.
Connected to the cameras, every gate event has vision of the vehicle and driver attached.
Privacy and Signage in Car Parks
Cameras in a car park record people and vehicles, so the footage needs to be handled carefully. In practice that means signs at the entries, a clear reason for recording, a set retention period, and limited access to the footage. The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Surveillance Devices Act 1998 (WA) are the main laws involved.
We set systems up so retention and access can be controlled. Your own obligations depend on your organisation, so confirm them with your adviser. Our guide to ANPR privacy and compliance in Perth covers plate data in more detail.
Upgrading Existing Car Park Cameras
Many car parks already have cameras that record movement and identify nobody, or recorders nobody has checked since they were installed. We assess what is there and tell you what is worth keeping.
Common upgrades are higher resolution cameras at the lanes and pedestrian exits, cameras for the blind spots at stairwells and far ends, and more recording storage.
Car Park CCTV Maintenance
The usual way a site finds out a camera has a problem is by going to look for footage that is not there. A drive failed months ago, a lens has filmed over with dust, or a camera was bumped and has been recording a wall. Perth heat and coastal salt wear outdoor cameras faster than most people expect.
A maintenance visit checks, cleans and re-aims each camera, confirms the recorder is keeping the footage you need, and brings firmware and passwords up to date. ANPR cameras get the same checks: focus, alignment and firmware.
What Affects the Cost of Car Park CCTV
The cost of car park CCTV in Perth comes down to the size and number of levels, how many cameras it needs, the lighting, the cabling runs, how long footage has to be kept, and whether it connects to ANPR, boom gates, access control or monitoring.
We provide free, no-obligation quotes after a site assessment, in writing, so you know the scope and price before any work starts.

Choosing a Car Park CCTV Installer in Perth
Rest-A-Sured Security has installed, upgraded and maintained security systems across WA for more than 28 years. We are WA owned and operated, we work from Wangara, and we cover the Perth metro area and regional WA.
If you are comparing car park CCTV installers, the things worth asking are whether they walk the car park before quoting, whether they can do the cameras and the ANPR, and whether they will still be servicing the system in five years.
We are a security licence holder (09458) doing our own installs and our own maintenance, and we offer a 2-year warranty on installations. Because we also install ANPR, access control, alarms and monitoring, the car park can be one part of a joined-up site rather than a separate system.

Car Park CCTV Perth FAQs
What is the difference between car park CCTV and ANPR?
ANPR identifies vehicles by their plates at set points such as lanes and gates. Car park CCTV records what happens across the whole car park. Most sites need both. See ANPR camera systems.
Can car park cameras read number plates?
A standard camera will rarely give you a readable plate. Reading plates takes a camera set up for that job at the entry or exit, or an ANPR camera that turns each plate into a searchable record.
Where should cameras go in a car park?
At the entries and exits, pay stations, stairwells, lifts, pedestrian exits and the far ends of each level, which is where incidents tend to happen. We plan it level by level at the site visit.
Do car park cameras work at night?
Yes, when they are specified for the lighting at each position. Headlight glare and dark corners are the main problems, and we look at both before choosing cameras.
Can you install car park CCTV while the car park is open?
Yes. We stage the installation around trading hours where the car park has to stay open.
Can you add to our existing car park cameras?
Often, depending on the make and age of the equipment. We check compatibility at the site visit before quoting.
Is car park CCTV monitored?
It can be. Where the cameras are tied to an alarm, a 24/7 grade 1 control room checks them when the alarm trips. See CCTV monitoring. ANPR alerts go to your own team.
Do I need signs for car park CCTV?
Signs at the entries saying cameras are in use are part of handling the footage properly, along with a clear purpose, a retention period and controlled access. Confirm your own obligations with your adviser.
How much does car park CCTV cost?
It depends on the size of the car park, the number of levels and cameras, the lighting, the cabling and what it connects to. We quote each site individually, and the quote is free.
